Changes for the Nursing Home Administrators Board

Friday, April 20, 2018

Due to House Bill 4129, the Nursing Home Administrators Board held its last meeting on April 12, 2018.

The bill brings on a new profession for licensing and changes the board name to the Long Term Care Administrators Board with all new members.

This board will have nine members appointed by the Governor and subject to Senate confirmation. All members of the board must be Oregon residents and concerned with the care and treatment of the chronically ill or infirm elderly patients. The following positions will be on the board:

  • Three nursing home administrators licensed under ORS 678.710 to 678.820;
  • Three residential care facility administrators licensed under ORS 678.710 to 678.820, at least one of whom serves in a memory care community;
  • One physician licensed under ORS 677.100 to 677.228, who has expertise in geriatric care or care for persons with disabilities;
  • Two members of the public who are not: otherwise eligible for appointment to the board or a spouse, domestic partner, child, parent, sibling of a nursing home administrator or residential care facility administrator.

This new board will involve a high commitment level from members as a rule writing and examination creation will require numerous in-person meetings. The Governor's Office of Executive Appointments will be reviewing board interest forms to build a very diverse board by appointing members from different ethnic backgrounds and geographic locations throughout the state of Oregon.
