“The Oregon Medical Board held an extensive and open national search for a permanent Executive Director of the Board,” Dean Gubler, DO, OMB Chair, said. “In the process, multiple highly qualified candidates were identified. After careful assessment by the search committee and interviews with Board Members and the Governor’s office staff, the Board was happy to offer Ms. Krishnaswami the Executive Director position.”
Ms. Krishnaswami had been serving as the Oregon Medical Board’s Interim Executive Director. In addition to her time as Interim Executive Director, she has served the OMB as Legislative and Policy Analyst since 2010.
“In a pool of highly qualified applicants, Ms. Krishnaswami emerged as the person best suited to lead the OMB to the next level,” said Chere Pereira, public member of the Board and Chair of the Executive Director Vetting Committee.
“Nicole’s experience with the organization gives her unique insight into what it takes to successfully run an agency of this caliber and will greatly assist in the OMB’s efforts to protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of Oregon citizens,” said James Lace, MD, Board member.
Ms. Krishnaswami has been involved in negotiating proposed legislation and represents the Board at the Legislature, committee meetings, and work groups. She has served as the agency’s Rules Coordinator, responsible for drafting and maintaining the Board’s administrative rules and responding to regulatory questions. Ms. Krishnaswami also led the Board’s Communications Team, which is responsible for overseeing Board publications and responding to general public, stakeholder, and media inquiries.
Ms. Krishnaswami earned her law degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Kathleen Haley, JD, serves as emeritus Executive Director of the OMB, throughout the remainder of 2018. Ms. Haley served as the OMB Executive Director for the past 24 years, and her availability will allow for a smooth administrative transition in leadership of the agency.
