Public meeting about proposed bikeway Nov. 19 in Fossil

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public meeting for a proposed Oregon Scenic Bikeway at 5:30 pm., Nov. 19 at the Jean E. Burch Building, 401 4th St., Fossil.

The proposed 120-mile-long Painted Hills Scenic Bikeway uses existing roads and passes by the John Day Fossil Beds and the towns of Fossil, Service Creek, Kimberly and Mitchell.

The meeting agenda will consist of a short presentation on the Oregon Scenic Bikeway Program and information on the proposed Painted Hills Scenic Bikeway followed by questions from the audience.

Public comment on the proposed bikeway will be taken at the meeting. Written public comment will be accepted both before and after the meeting until the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission acts on the proposed designation. Comments will be presented to the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission before the commission votes on designation.

The following day, Nov. 20, Travel Oregon will host a workshop on the proposed Bikeway. The public is invited to attend both the public meeting and the workshop. More information on the workshop can be found at http://industry.traveloregon.com/PaintedHills
