Mist Gas Field

The Mist Gas Field, located in Columbia County, has been of significant economic importance to Columbia County and the State. The State applies a severance tax of 6% on the gas production which goes to the common school fund. Regulatory aspects of oil and gas drilling activity at the Mist Gas Field and throughout the State are handled by the DOGAMI oil and gas regulatory program.

The Mist Gas Field includes underground natural gas storage projects that are of economic benefit to consumers of natural gas in the State and provide gas delivery capacity through several pipelines from the Mist Gas Field. DOGAMI regulates injection, storage, and withdrawal of produced natural gas from the natural or artifically created underground reservoirs. Regulation of underground storage does not include delivery pipelines or above-ground facilities such as compressor stations.
