OAR 337-010-0030
(6) Limited Scope Examination Fees:
(a) Students can sit for the examination throughout the year. The examination fee is $20 for each examination category for which the student is tested, combined with an administration fee set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). These fees, together with the necessary certifications and verifications that the applicant has completed Board-approved Core Module course, and Radiographic Procedure Module courses, and a practical experience program must be submitted to the Board office. On submission and acceptance of the application materials, OBMI shall register the applicant with the ARRT, after which the applicant has 90 days in which to sit for the exam. The Board, upon advance request, may approve a student to submit an application for the examination prior to completion of all course requirements, based upon school verification that the student is expected to complete all coursework. Verification must include a preliminary course completion certificate, endorsed by a responsible school official, indicating the courses for which the student is enrolled, expected completion date, and the students status in each course. The final approved course completion certificate is required as part of the application for a temporary permit. A temporary permit will only be issued for anatomical areas for which the applicant has successfully completed coursework and obtained a passing grade on the ARRT examination.

RE: Proper State Licensure Required for All Medical Imaging Technologists

TO: All Professionals and Health Institutions Providing Diagnostic Medical Imaging Services:

In 2009 the Governor and Legislature approved landmark legislation to expand medical imaging licensure requirements in Oregon to include sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists and MRI technologists. The law became effective a year later, with an additional grace period stretching to the middle of 2011. Since enactment in 2009, the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) has worked to notify interested parties regarding state licensure law, but we still find individuals and health organizations that are not aware or mindful of state licensure requirements.

With few exceptions, the practice of diagnostic medical imaging in Oregon requires a current state license; this requirement applies to radiography, radiation therapy, MRI, sonography and nuclear medicine technologists. Limited X-Ray Machine Operators are required to have a current state permit. In accordance with Oregon statutes and administrative rules, civil penalties of up to $1,000 may be levied for each instance of an individual performing medical imaging without a state license or permit, and for each instance in which an organization employs a person who performs medical imaging without a proper license or permit.

The Board of Medical Imaging urges all medical imaging professionals to be certain that their license or permit is current and appropriate to their practice. The Board also urges all hospitals, clinics and diagnostic imaging centers to be equally certain that their medical imaging employees possess the appropriate state license or permit. An individuals licensure status can be verified on the Boards website at: http://www.oregon.gov/OBMI/licensee_info.shtml.

As the state with the most comprehensive medical imaging licensure law in the nation, Oregon is the undisputed leader in promoting public health and safety through the safe and appropriate use of imaging technologies. But we need your help to assure effective implementation of the law.

Your cooperation is strongly encouraged and greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Thomas King, Board Chair
Oregon Board of Medical Imaging

MANDATED STATE FURLOUGH CLOSURE DATES
Click Here To View The State Furlough Schedule

The current recession has reduced state revenues which has forced the Legislature to make deep cuts in agency budgets. Coping with these cuts requires closing all state offices and facilities, including the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging, on the days listed below. Our employees will take unpaid furloughs on those days.

We apologize for any inconvenience these closures might cause, and we look forward to restoration of a full work schedule when the economy improves.

Protect yourself, your family and your co-workers by staying informed.

The Governor of Oregon has asked that this site be posted to all state agency web sites. It is always a good idea to check with your doctor on your health care, especially at this time of year. The fewer of us who get sick from either seasonal influenza or pandemic H1N1 influenza, the more we can reduce the impact in our schools and workplaces.
