Despite everyone’s best efforts at responsibly using and reducing use of pesticides, these chemicals have been found in the Clackamas River and its tributaries. Studies done by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in 2000 and 2005 revealed that 97% of their samples had 2 or more types of pesticides present. The majority of the pesticides detected in our waterways are applied for multiple uses including agriculture (Christmas tree, floriculture and nursery crops), right-of- ways, golf courses, forestland, and urban applications. Although the current levels of pesticides found in the Clackamas basin are far below dangerous thresholds, their presence is a warning sign. By bringing your old and unused pesticides to this collection event for proper disposal you will ensure they won’t get into our waterways! Help protect our drinking water source and fish habitat. The 300,000 people who rely on the Clackamas River for drinking water thank you!
