Reminder - Use of Thionex on Specific Crops is Unlawful after July 31, 2012

The use of endosulfan is gradually being phased out. Endosulfan is the active ingredient in Thionex EC, Thionex 50W and Drexel Endosulfan 3 EC Insecticide. FMC Thiodan (a.i. endosulfan) is no longer in the marketplace.


The use of endosulfan will be unlawful on the crops listed below after July 31, 2012.

In addition, the endosulfan residue tolerances will be revoked on the food crops listed below on July 31, 2012 (exceptions noted). Commodities in the channels of trade after July 31, 2012, will not be considered adulterated as long as the application was lawful (in accordance with the label, and on or before July 31, 2012) and the residue tolerances that were in effect at the time of application are not exceeded (subject to FFDCA section 408(l)(5)).

Christmas trees SLNs: OR-030012 (Thionex 50W) and OR-030013 (Thionex 3EC)

Hybrid poplars grown for pulp or timber, SLN OR-030024 (Thionex 3EC)

Stone fruit (cherry (sweet and tart), nectarine, peach, apricot and plum/prune)

Ornamental trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants

Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage

Summer melons (including cantaloupe, muskmelon, watermelon)

Squash (summer)

Hazelnut, walnut and almond

Carrot and cauliflower

Collards, kale, and mustard

Cucumber and celery

Eggplant and lettuce

Sweet potato

Dry peas* and dry beans

Kohlrabi* and turnip*

* Tolerance not listed as expiring, but use is unlawful after 7/31/2012.
