    Oregon Veterans Day 2009


  Willamette Master Chorus Veterans Concerts 
Nov. 7,  at 7 p.m.
Nov. 8,  at 3 p.m.
Brahms: "Requiem" with orchestra.


All concerts will be at Hudson Hall on the campus of Willamette University in Salem. This auditioned choir brings to area audiences the finest in choral masterworks from the Renaissance through the 21st century. The Willamette Master Chorus comprises 75 veteran professional and dedicated amateur musicians.


 
  Restaurants to Serve Veterans Free Meals
Two restaurant chains will be offering free meals to U.S. veterans and active duty military with proof of current or former military service.
 
McCormick & Schmick's will offer free selected entrees to veterans on Sunday, Nov. 8 at some locations.  Applebee's will also serve veterans free selected entrees all day on Wednesday, Nov. 11. 



  Remembering America's Heroes Fundraiser

Remembering America's Heroes is hosting a special fundraiser concert on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 S.W. Broadway in Portland.
 
The concert is called "A Tribute to Veterans:  A Musical Journey from the Revolutionary War On..."  It will  include musical acts from some of Portland's best-known performers - including Richard Probasco, The Brown Sisters, the Dennis Mitchell Band, Two Sisters and a Mister, a special choir with students from Lake Oswego, Putnam, West Linn, and Clackamas high schools, and more.
 
Ticket prices range from $20 to $50, and all proceeds benefit Remembering America's Heroes, a non-profit organization.

  McNary High School to Host Veterans
Students and staff will host military veterans on Friday, Nov. 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 595 Chemawa Road  N., Keizer. Veterans are invited to a special assembly at 9 a.m. in the gym. They may also speak to student groups in classrooms.

  Portland Trail Blazer's Military Appreciation Night
The Portland Trail Blazers will honor all Veterans, Active Duty, Reservists, their family and friends, Nov. 21, 7 p.m., at the Rose Garden, Portland. All military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms. Ticket prices are reduced.

Festivities include:
• Pre-game swear in
• Color Guard presentation
• Special presentation and messages throughout the game

  Vietnam War Photo Exhibit, One-Act Play
The exhibit, Requiem: by the "Photographers Who Died in Vietnam and Indochina, is on display at Hallie Ford Museum of Art, 700 State St. N.E., corner of State and Cottage. The exhibition features 160 photographs from the collection of the George Eastman House/International Museum of Photography and Film in N.Y., taken by photographers who died in Vietnam between 1945 and 1975.
