Medal of Honor Monument

The Medal of Honor Monument (#2)

Dedicated on Jan.20, 1984, the obelisk honors Oregon's recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest military recognition for bravery that can be awarded to a member of the U.S. Armed Forces. Carved from granite saved from the remodeling of the original Oregon Capitol, the pillar is surrounded by 13 cedar trees, one for each Oregon Medal of Honor recipient.  Also it is a replica of the monument dedicated by the late-Gov. Vic Atiyeh in 1981 at the Freedom Foundation Medal of Honor Grove at Valley Forge, Pa.
