Be A Volunteer At The State Library!
Volunteer Program Mission
Citizens who volunteer are valuable assets to the Oregon State Library. The Library Board of Trustees and the State Librarian promote and encourage the involvement of volunteers to assist staff in the achievement of the mission and the goals of the State Library.

Who Can Volunteer?

Adults:
If you want to share your skills or learn new ones, work on an issue that is important to you, or contribute to your fellow citizens of Oregon you may volunteer.

Groups:
Church, community, service, support, and youth groups can work together to assist on current programs or special projects when the work is available.

Students:
The State Library is an active supporter of School to Work, career related learning. Students are welcome to explore through mentorships, site visits, informational interviews, job shadows, structured work experience, and internships.

Opportunities Available

Book Inspection Volunteer

Come join our team...that all may read! Talking Books are important to people who are Blind or have disabilities that keep them from traditional book reading. Here is an opportunity for you to help. Just one and a half hours each week.

We need a volunteer who likes a task that is very "hands-on", has certain details to follow, and a huge sense of accomplishment when the task is completed. Talking books need to be inspected when they are returned.

Our book inspectors receive a lot of satisfaction helping us get the books ready for circulation. Daily, we process about 1,200 digital books, check them back into the library and then check books out again. We need a volunteer who likes detail work and enjoys improving the speed to do the task while retaining accurate work.

We have 1 shift to fill...Wednesdays at 1:30-3:00. If you are interested to learn more, contact Robin Speer at 503-378-5014 robin.d.speer@state.or.us. Come join our team...that all may read!
