About Oregon DOC
The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is responsible for the safe and secure operation of Oregon's state correctional institutions and for supporting successful transitions from incarceration to community life. DOC has legal custody of adults sentenced to incarceration for more than 12 months and operates 12 correctional institutions throughout Oregon.

DOC's work is grounded in public safety, accountability, rehabilitation, and successful reentry. Through safe and secure operations, evidence-based practices, education, treatment, work opportunities, and other programs and services, DOC helps adults in custody develop the skills and connections needed to successfully return to their communities.
Our Work
DOC's responsibilities extend beyond the walls of its correctional institutions. The department supports a continuum of services that begins at intake and continues through incarceration, release, and community supervision.
- Operating 12 state correctional institutions;
- Providing evidence-based programs and services that address factors associated with criminal behavior;
- Providing education, vocational training, work opportunities, and behavioral health services;
- Supporting family and community connections;
- Preparing adults in custody for successful reentry; and
- Working with community partners to promote safe and successful transitions.
DOC's statewide system balances safety, accountability, rehabilitation, and reentry to support safer communities and better outcomes.
Community Corrections
DOC also plays an important role in community supervision. Approximately 19,300 adults are under supervision across Oregon. DOC directly operates Community Corrections in Linn and Douglas counties and works with community partners throughout the state to support effective supervision, treatment, housing, employment, and successful reentry.
DOC also provides statewide services and coordination that support community corrections, including interstate compact administration and jail inspections.
Oregon Accountability Model
The Oregon Accountability Model (OAM) provides a framework for coordinating DOC's efforts to reduce the risk of future criminal behavior and promote successful reentry.
The model emphasizes assessment and case planning, positive staff interactions, work and programs, children and families, reentry, and community supervision and programs.
Together, these efforts provide a continuum of support and accountability from intake through incarceration, release, and community supervision.
