    Local Artists Karen Stillwagon and Susan Chambers have put together a joint, mixed media show for display at the South Slough Reserve this May and June.  Come and meet with the artists as you relax in the beauty of the South Slough. (Free)


South Slough Summer Science Camps AmeriCorps

Summer is coming and so are South Slough Summer Science Camps!​

Camps offer hands-on activities in the estuary with a focus on natural history and outdoor exploration. Campers bring their own lunch, but a snack is provided during the day.  Zoea camp runs from 9 am to 1 pm, Megalops Camp runs from 9 am to 2 pm and Dungeness & Instar Camps run from 9 am to 3 pm.  Camps are designed to fit the abilities and interests of campers according to the grade they will be entering in the Fall of 2016. Registration will begin online on April 1.  For further information after reading the camp descriptions, contact Eric Dean, Education Specialist at 541-888-5558 Ext. 126.

The Interpretive Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am until 4:30 pm. The Center is closed on state holidays.

Become an AmeriCorps member at South Slough! 


As the Science Outreach Specialist lead the Estuary Explorers on an after school journey to discover the wealth of wildlife around their school campus. Use hands-on science, observation and real data to motivate student achievement. Serve September 2016 to July 2017. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be accepted no later than August 1, 2016.​

Join South Slough staff for a very special program at the Charleston Marine Life Center!  We will have the Center to ourselves as we explore the amazing lives of marine mammals in our area.  When the Center opens at 11 am we encourage families to stay and explore all of the exciting displays throughout the building.  Parents/guardians must be present for this event.

South Slough NERR
encompasses a mixture of open water channels, tidal and freshwater wetlands, riparian areas, and forested uplands.  The Reserve supports and coordinates research, education, and stewardship programs which serve to enhance a scientific and public understanding of estuaries and contribute to improved estuarine management.  South Slough Reserve is part of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS), a network of 28 reserves dedicated to research, education and stewardship.
