SALEM - The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting interested jurisdictions to apply to site Oregon’s second veterans’ home. Proposals are due back to ODVA no later than 4 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2010. Interested jurisdiction may find the RFP on the ODVA website at www.oregon.gov/odva. The RFP requires a land grant and matching funds equaling 35 percent of the total project cost. The majority portion of cost is borne by the United State Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA). Oregon already boasts one veterans’ home located in The Dalles. According to USDVA statistics, Oregon needs 800 skilled nursing beds for its aging veterans. The veterans’ home in The Dalles has 151 beds, including 25 for dementia and Alzheimer residents. The new veterans’ home may have as many as 250 beds.
