The Korean War Memorial (#1)
This memorial was a long awaited dream and project of the Iron Triangle Chapter of the Oregon Korean War Veterans Association. The Association's members wanted the memorial to be built while many Korean veterans were still alive.
The Oregon Army National Guard’s 1249th Engineer Battalion prepared the site and did the concrete work.
Dedicated in 1999, the black, polished granite memorial is surrounded by foliage and located on the northwest corner of the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs building in Salem.
The Korean War began on June 24, 1950 and the armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. Approximately 74,000 Oregonians served during the Korean War era.
