The Medal of Honor Monument (#2)
On the north end of ODVA’s grounds stands Oregon’s Medal of Honor monument. Dedicated on Jan. 20, 1984, this monument honors Oregon’s recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest military recognition for bravery that can be awarded to a member of the U.S. Armed Services. Carved from granite that was saved from the remodeling of Oregon's state capitol, the monument was dedicated by the late-Gov. Vic Atiyeh in 1981. The pillar is a replica of a monument at the Freedoms Foundation Medal of Honor Grove at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. There are 13 cedar trees that were planted around the monument - one for each Oregon Medal of Honor recipient.
