  • Arts in the Parks collaboration brings folk art to state parks

    Oregon State Parks, Arts Commission, Cultural Trust partner on new pilot project

     

    Through demonstrations and performances by a Karuk Indian basket weaver; a teacher of fly-tying as traditional art; a Siletz tribal storyteller, and a hobo balladeer, four Oregon state parks are coming alive with folk art during four Saturdays in June.

  • Oregon Tech’s geothermal power plant is full steam ahead

    First university to generate all electrical power for campus

     

    Oregon Tech and Batzer Construction of Medford, Oregon, began the infrastructure and installation of a new 1.75 MW geothermal power plant at the Oregon Tech Klamath Falls campus this month. Completion of the project is expected in December 2013. The combination of the 2.0 MW solar array project with Solar City and the geothermal power plant project with Batzer allow Oregon Tech to become the first university in North America to reach a major goal to generate most — if not all — electrical power needed for the campus.

    "We believe that small changes make a big difference over time," says Mary Peterson, chair of the graduate department of clinical psychology at George Fox University in Newberg. "If you have an ocean liner and you shift your direction by just one or two degrees of latitude, you will end up in a very different place. It's the same with health care."

    A grant from the Yamhill CCO will place mental health consultants in primary care clinics.

    State’s Brownfields and Business Finance Programs receive recognition

     

    Business Oregon was lauded by the national Community Development Financing Association, winning its Distinguished Development Finance Agency award, and recognized by its CEO as being “…cutting-edge, innovative and an example of best practices in our industry.” Most recently, two Brownfield projects received national Phoenix Award nominations and the program specialist, Karen Homolac, earned a 2013 Leadership Award from the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals.
