Bus Drivers, Transit and Intercity Apprenticeship Opportunities

Job Description

Transit bus operators will work in Lane County, primarily in the Eugene/Springfield metro area, with some routes to nearby communities. Work will generally be performed in and around a Transit Bus with access to Bus Operator specific areas for breaks or lunch periods. New Bus Operator schedules generally include work on evenings and weekends with some variability in start an end times. Schedules are selected based on a seniority bidding system.

Working Conditions

Bus Operators work in all weather conditions and regularly interact with the general public. They are expected to assist passengers with mobility needs, which can require awkward or cramped positions.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 21 years old, per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) under Section 391.11 for interstate commerce. Must have High School diploma or GED Equivalent. Must have a five-year driving record acceptable to the district’s insurance carrier and meet one of the two following requirements: Ability to obtain an Oregon CDL permit with air brake and passenger endorsements prior to beginning employment. Lane Transit District will train and pay for applicants to take the CDL test onsite with our licensed examiner OR Current possession of a valid Oregon Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B with air brake and passenger endorsements and ability to obtain an Oregon Department of Transportation Medical Card prior to beginning employment.
