Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship Opportunities

Job Description

Assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May help set up operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and their assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.

Working Conditions

Surgical technologists wear scrubs and sterile gowns, gloves, caps, and masks while they are in the operating room. Their work may be physically demanding, requiring them to be on their feet for long periods. Surgical technologists also may need to help move patients or lift heavy trays of medical supplies. At times, they may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Age: Must be 18 years or older; Education: All applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED, or certificate of high school equivalency, or a college degree from an accredited institution; Note: As a condition of employment, Training Agents may require: 1. Passing a pre-employment drug screening, 2. Pass a criminal background check, 3. Hospitals may require applicants to show immunity or proof of certain immunizations.
