Job Description
Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools.
Working Conditions
Machinists and tool and die makers work in machine shops, toolrooms, and factories. Although many work full time during regular business hours, overtime may be common, as is evening and weekend work. How to Become One: Machinists and tool and die makers typically are trained on the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED certificate of completion.
