A (-)/ 641 AVN Demobilization Ceremony Remarks
September 9, 2024
Good afternoon to the families, friends, and members of the Alpha minus 2nd battalion 641st aviation regiment. On behalf of the state of Oregon, and as your commander and chief, thank you, and welcome home.
More than a year ago, we met in this same room, and we wished you a safe deployment to the Horn of Africa. I am honored and happy to welcome you back, safe and sound.
Your mobilization was my first as your Governor. In that time, in addition to several more international active duty mobilizations, I have activated the Guard for state active duty missions to help communities during wildfires and to help rescue missing or injured people. The Guard has helped save countless lives and has recovered remains to return to their loved ones.
I am always humbled by your dedication. Time after time, you have answered the call – no matter the mission – no matter the risk – no matter what.
Thank you for your sacrifices in service to our country – for all the moments and milestones you missed with loved ones, family, and friends. Thank you for your courage, commitment, and resolve.
Thank you to the families, friends and employers that kept everything running smoothly at home so that you could focus on your mission. Undoubtedly, the hardships you faced over the last year were only surmountable with the help and love of your support systems.
Thank you to all the civilian employers who graciously supported you and welcomed you home after a year overseas. Our state is better served because employers continue to foster opportunities for Oregonians to serve in our State’s militia.
Collectively, you all exemplify the strength of our country and our willingness to rise to meet any challenge together. You make the United States and Oregon stronger – more resilient and more capable of taking on whatever challenges we face today, and into the future.
Let me close by thanking the service members of Alpha minus 2nd battalion 641st aviation regiment for your service to our country and Oregon.
Welcome home.
