Judge Dozono Investiture Ceremony Remarks

Judge Dozono has deep roots in my former House district. I’ve known her family for many years — including her uncle Sho, who has contributed so much to our community. Marking this milestone in your career and recognizing the impact you will have in this role, is personally meaningful to me. 

When I appoint judges, I look for public service professionals who are grounded in their communities — people who work every day to make them stronger and remove barriers to justice. Elisa embodies this. 

Her record of community service, advocacy, and pro bono work speaks for itself. She founded two nonprofits — one to support women and minorities running for office, and one to support AAPI lawyers in their professional development. She has made impactful contributions everywhere she has served, and I am confident the Multnomah Circuit Court will be no different. 

Today, Judge Dozono makes history as the first Japanese American trial court judge in the Metro region. And in her own words: “Like juries, the faces of our judges should reflect the community they serve.” This appointment is one important step toward that reality. 

Judge Dozono, congratulations. The bench is stronger with you on it.
