Law Enforcement Memorial
May 6, 2025
It is an honor to be with you all today, and I’m grateful to be able to be with you for the third consecutive year since I took office.
For all of us, taking time to slow down and reflect can be a luxury. As I prepared for today’s remarks, I found myself remembering the lives of those we have recently been memorialized here, the officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. There are two things I hold with me when I think about our law enforcement community: your selflessness, and the selflessness of your families.
Each year I have had the privilege of seeing generations of families showing up to honor their loved ones, and to honor people they have never met but share a rare and unbreakable bond with. An unspoken understanding, founded in loss, strengthened by hope, and for some, by faith.
Our law enforcement officers experience the most complicated parts of humanity – and are called to and trained to stand face to face with others and offer help. Offer accountability. Offer a path to redemption, and a path for victims to heal.
This responsibility tests your character again and again. And I thank you for staying the course and helping your neighbors and your communities with courage and commitment.
Who we are in the face of adversity is an opportunity to be our very best selves. The officers memorialized today met the moment with dignity and heroism and made the ultimate sacrifice. There is no sacrifice more noble, no pledge to the public more honorable. That extends to their families as well.
I’ll close by expressing my most sincere condolences to the families and the law enforcement community who are grieving their lost loved ones and colleagues and remembering the three fallen officers who are honored today.
I am sorry for your loss. We know that time does not erase loss. We should never forget the courage, resilience, and compassion of these individuals, and this memorial is a testament to their life and legacy.
Thank you for the honor of being here with you today. God bless you.
