Workers Memorial Day 2025
April 28, 2025
Good afternoon, everyone. Today is a solemn day of remembrance as we honor the Oregonians whose lives were tragically lost at their workplaces. And we offer our deepest condolences to the families of the 46 workers who died from workplace injuries last year.
46 is far too many. Every day, people across Oregon go to work to provide for themselves and their families, to help their fellow Oregonians and make the state a thriving place to live–and we need to do everything we can to make sure they return home at the end of their shifts, safe and sound.
Events like today serve to remind us of the responsibility entrusted to us. Let us recommit ourselves to making working conditions safer and protect workers across the state and revitalize our commitment to creating safe and healthy workplaces.
It is now my honor to read the proclamation.
