Certified Continuing Education Providers

June 2024

Real estate licensees must complete 30 hours of continuing education from Certified Continuing Education Providers to renew their license.

To become a certified provider, you must do the following:

  1. Qualify to apply.
  2. Apply via eLicense and pay the certification fee.

How to Qualify

Prospective providers must qualify before they can apply to become a Certified Continuing Education Provider.

By Rule

Before applying, you or your organization must meet one of the following qualifications outlined in Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 863-020-0020:

  • A real estate company with a business name registered with the Agency.
  • For this qualification, the Certified Continuing Education Provider application must be completed in the business name registered with the Agency. (ORS 696.026 and OAR 863-014-0095 or OAR 863-024-0095)

  • A licensed title or escrow company conducting business in this state.
  • A real estate trade association.
  • This is a group whose members include real estate licensees, escrow agents, or title companies. For example: Douglas County Board of Realtors, Commercial Association of Brokers, Oregon Escrow Council, and National Association of Residential Property Managers. Individual members of a group do not automatically qualify to become a Certified Continuing Education Provider.

  • A trade association in a real estate-related field.
  • This is a group whose members include licensed, certified, or registered:

    • Appraisers
    • Architects
    • Attorneys
    • Contractors
    • Home Inspectors
    • Mortgage Brokers
    • Mortgage Bankers
    • Professional Engineers
    • Securities broker-dealers or salespersons
    • Surveyors
    • Tax Professionals
    • Individual members of such groups do not automatically qualify to become a Certified Continuing Education Provider.

  • A real estate multiple listing service.
  • A licensed private career school approved by the Agency to offer pre-license real estate education.
  • An accredited community college or an accredited state institution of higher education.
  • A distance learning provider with at least one course approved by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO).
  • An attorney admitted to practice in Oregon.
  • This applies to individual attorneys only, not law firms.

By Petition of the Board

If you or your company do not meet the above qualifications, you can petition the Oregon Real Estate Board. Petitions must be submitted at least 21 days before the scheduled Board meeting where you want a decision. Attendance at the meeting (in person, by phone, or video conference) is highly recommended. The Board will consider petitions with qualifications substantially similar to those listed in OAR 863-020-0020.

Apply for Certification

Once qualified, you apply to become a Certified Continuing Education Provider via eLicense and pay the required fee. Certification requires annual renewal by December 31 of each year.
