Tips for Renewing a Registered Business Name

June 2025

If you are the key contact/authorized licensee for your registered business name (RBN), you manage two eLicense accounts:

  • Your personal license account.
  • Your business (RBN) account.

Make sure you log into the correct account when renewing. Your personal license and your business registration are in separate accounts.

If your login information is filled in automatically by your internet browser, you may need to clear it and enter the correct username and password for the account. Check the renewal reminder email from the Oregon Real Estate Agency (OREA) for information on your login.

When to renew

Your RBN expires on the last day of the renewal month every year. You can renew it starting the first day of that month.

OREA sends out a courtesy renewal reminder by email. Failure to receive the email reminder is not an excuse for not renewing on time. You can check the expiration date by logging into the RBN account in eLicense.

Different from your Secretary of State registration

Renewing your RBN with OREA is separate from any business registration renewal with the Oregon Secretary of State. You need to do both.

What you need to renew

Before you start, gather the following:

  • Addresses: Confirm the physical, mailing, and email addresses for the RBN. Remember: You must notify OREA before you change your main office address (ORS 696.200).
  • List of licensees: Confirm which licensees are working under the RBN.
  • Clients' trust accounts: Confirm all clients' trust accounts.
Note: All property managers, and principal brokers managing rental real estate under a property management agreement, must have at least one open clients' trust account. You must notify OREA within 10 business days when you open or close a clients' trust account.
  • Payment: The fee is $50. You pay online with VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or electronic check.

Questions?

If you need help with your RBN renewal or have questions about the process, contact OREA. Remember, renewing on time keeps you and your licensees active and eligible to work.
