How HB 1513 Affects Team Names, Website Addresses, and Email Addresses

September 2026

House Bill 1513, passed in March 2026, requires real estate teams to remove the terms “real estate” or “realty” from their team names by July 1, 2027. As affected licensees prepare for this change, the Oregon Real Estate Agency has received questions about whether those terms must also be removed from website addresses and email addresses.

OAR 863-015-0125 defines advertising as “all forms of meaningful communication by or on behalf of a real estate broker or principal broker.” OREA does not find that website URLs (uniform resource locator) or email addresses are meaningful communication by themselves. Teams will not be expected to register new domain names or create new email addresses. Only the content on webpages and in emails must reflect the new requirements.

Real estate teams should focus their efforts on ensuring that all email and website content comply with the law that is effective on July 1, 2027.
