Pharmacy Services & Medical Stores
Pharmacy & Medical Stores
Description
The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC), Pharmacy Services, is regulated and licensed by both the Oregon Board of Pharmacy and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Licensure is renewed annually with the Oregon Board of Pharmacy and every three years with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Pharmacy Services orders pharmaceuticals, maintains inventories, fills prescriptions and packages for shipping or delivery from two locations in Oregon, Salem and Ontario. The pharmacy system currently serves approximately 12,600 inmates in 13 institutions statewide. Pharmacy Services fills over 24,000 prescriptions a month. Pharmaceuticals are purchased through a 40 state buying consortium with annual purchasing power in excess of a half a billion dollars. This affords us among the best pharmaceutical prices in the nation, which assists greatly in keeping costs down.

Pharmacy Services is currently staffed with one manager who oversees both pharmacy services and medical stores, six licensed pharmacists, eight licensed technicians and one support staff who also supports both pharmacy services and medical stores.

The mission of Medical Stores is to supply the professional health care staff in the institutions with all of the equipment, tools and supplies that they need on a daily basis so they can provide least cost optimal care to patients.

Medical Stores has two supply warehouses that support all of the (DOC) institutions statewide. Bulk supplies are received and repackaged for shipment or delivery on a daily basis. Medical Stores is managed by the Pharmacy Services Manager, has a staff of three property specialists and shares support staff with the Pharmacy. Medical Stores supports a health care delivery staff of over 350 health and mental health professionals.
