Diversity Conference

Looking toward September 21-22, 2010 and back at highlights from 2009

September 2010: Looking forward

The 2010 Diversity Conference provides a cost-effective opportunity to build skills and expertise. Developing cultural competency is key to our future success as two agencies. Over recent decades our state has seen significant population shifts and those changes will continue.

This conference provides a strategic developmental opportunity for hiring managers, employees who have not previously attended the conference, and staff whose task it is to improve cultural competence in our service delivery. Please visit the 2010 Diversity Conference for more information.

2009 Conference highlights

  • Record numbers! More than 1,700 people registered for the Conference, an all-time, one-day record! Favorable post-conference survey results support the year's strong turnout. More than 80 percent of Conference attendees who responded to the survey rated the workshops they attended as good, very good or excellent. Read their comments...

  • Links to speakers' Web sites now available. Go to the Speaker bios page for links to Diversity Conference speakers' Web site and e-mail addresses.

  • Partnerships, old and new. Four new partners joined DHS, ODOT and the WorkSource/Oregon Employment Department to sponsor the outstanding 2009 Conference. The new sponsors are the State Library, Department of Corrections, Parks and Recreation Department and the Department of Administrative Services. Visit the Partnerships page to learn more.

  • Food donation results. Conference attendees were very generous again this year. Reminders about donations, e-mailed closer to the day of the event, are a priority for 2010.

  • Lunchtime discussion a first. In 2009, attendees were invited to a Conference first: a facilitated discussion using a "Learning Circles model." Participants shared a unique opportunity to explore new issues and old questions.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.
