Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Summit Announcement

We know some of you have been looking forward to the 2017 Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Summits. The Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Network Steering Committee and partners at Upstream Public Health recently decided that we will not hold the Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Summits in early 2017. Factors involved with the decision not to hold Summits in early 2017 include:
1) The need to focus our fall and winter staff capacity on advocating for increased funding for farm to school and school gardens from the 2017 Legislature,
2) Requests to provide more local & regional resources for ODE Farm to School Procurement grantees such as webinars, regional trainings and in person meetings, and
3) Limited funding sources to support the gatherings.
We’re sorry not to be hosting Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Summits in early 2017, but as a result of the decision we expect to have more capacity to provide you, as stakeholders, with the kind of support and advocacy we think is most needed in the coming months.

We will stay in touch about our plans for future summits, as they evolve.

We would also like to notify the "gardening" side of our constituency about The National Children & Youth Gardening Symposium, which will be held in Portland on July 12-15, 2017. This annual event, convened by the American Horticultural Society, is in a different location each year. They are currently recruiting for presenters, who get discounted registration. OFSSGN may hold a state-wide gathering for Oregon school garden stakeholders in conjunction with that conference.

Please reach out to Oregon’s farm to school and school garden resource people as needed for support, and keep in mind that you can use this email list and sub-lists (garden educators, non-profits, nutrition services, etc.) to communicate with your counterparts around the state with questions and ideas.

Thank you for all you are doing to support farm to school and school gardens in Oregon!
The Summits are a procect of the Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Network.

National Children & Youth Garden Symposium

ODE, the Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Network, and Upstream Public Health are tentatively planning to  co-hosting an Oregon Garden Educators Gathering just prior to the National Children and Youth Garden Symposium on Wednesday July 12th from 2:00-5:00 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.
We envision an informal event, with approximately 50-75 attendees, with time for informal networking, topic tables (with topics identified in advance by participants), and a policy update and/or celebration (the legislative session ends the day before the event). See the link below in the National Training Events & Conferences.
