Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is at the forefront of the administration's health IT efforts. It is a resource to the entire health system to support the adoption of health information technology and the promotion of nationwide health information exchange to improve health care. ONC is located within the Office of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services oversee the Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs, which provide eligible hospitals and medical professionals financial support to implement and meaningfully use electronic health record systems. The centers also develop meaningful use criteria providers must meet in order to receive an incentive payment.
