Practitioner information

On July 1, 2015, Gov. Kate Brown signed Oregon House Bill 2796, creating a registry of licensed music therapists under the umbrella of the Health Licensing Office in the Music Therapy Program. Music therapy is an established health profession, and HB 2796 authorizes the Health Licensing Office to license qualified applicants to practice music therapy. It specifies criteria for applicants and authorizes the Office to adopt rules for licensing, qualifications, standards of practice and professional responsibility.

Music therapy is defined as "the clinical and evidence-based use of specialized music techniques to accomplish individualized goals of music therapy clients" (ORS 681.700).
