Social media comment policy

Thank you for engaging with the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services social media channels. DCBS participates in social media to provide followers with helpful resources and highlights of some of our innovative initiatives.

Posting or communicating through this account does not constitute legal or official notice to DCBS, the State of Oregon, or any official or employee of DCBS or the state for any purpose. DCBS does not guarantee that the information contained in public comments is correct. DCBS is not responsible for any damage or loss resulting from reliance on this information.

When engaging with DCBS on social media, you are subject to the terms of service of the host site. We encourage you to review the host site’s terms of service before engaging on social media accounts maintained by the state. If you decide to post content, keep in mind that state social media accounts are used to engage with all members of the public. The state moderates discussion on social media to ensure that its forums are a safe place for discussion and education for everyone. DCBS does not discriminate against any views, but we reserve the right to remove or hide any of the following:

  • Comments that indirectly or expressly discriminate against a group of people distinguished by race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, veteran status, disability, age, or any other class protected by law.
  • Violent, vulgar, obscene, or racist comments. This includes comments containing sexual content or links to sexual content.
  • Creative spellings of swear words using asterisks or spaces between letters.
  • Comments that defame (false statements that harm the reputation of another) any person or organization.
  • Comments that threaten (a stated intent to inflict harm or loss on another) any person or organization.
  • Comments that suggest or promote illegal activity (such as attempting to commit a crime, committing a crime, or encouraging others to commit a crime).
  • Comments that promote or oppose any person campaigning for election to a political office or that promote or oppose any ballot measure.
  • Comments or posts that violate a legal ownership interest of any other party (copyright or trademark infringement).
  • Solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, business, or commercial entity.
  • Comments or posts that disclose information that the agency and its employees are required to keep confidential by law or administrative rule or that may compromise the safety or security of the state, including state employees.
  • Content that includes sensitive personal identifying information, including, but not limited to, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or driver's license numbers.
  • Spam (advertisements, content that links to external sites, or images).
  • Links to malware.

Any information posted on DCBS social media channels is considered public information and may be subject to monitoring, moderation, or disclosure to third parties.

We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium; however, our moderation capabilities are not. Our hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
