Apply for a Medication Aide or CNA2 Certificate

 Which Application Do You Need?

If you have never been an Oregon medication aide (CMA) before, start by choosing an answer below.
 

​If you are an Oregon RN or LPN, you are eligible to apply for an Oregon Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certificate.

What happens next:  After you submit your application and payment, you will receive an email from the OSBN with instructions on how to complete the fingerprinting process for your national criminal background check.  More information about Oregon’s digital fingerprint system: Frequently Asked Questions about fingerprinting.

​You are eligible to apply for the CMA exam and Oregon certification if you:

  • Hold a current, unencumbered Oregon CNA certificate.
  • Have at least six months of paid, full-time employment doing CNA authorized duties (or the part-time equivalent) within the past two years.
And fit one of the conditions below (please see application for complete requirements):
  • Complete an OSBN-approved medication-aide training program within the past year.
  • Complete an out-of-state medication-aide training program that meets the requirements in OAR 851-061-0090.
  • Are a student enrolled in, or a graduate of, a US nursing education program.
  • Have completed military corpsman or medic training.
  • Have an Oregon CMA certification, but do not meet the normal renewal requirements.
What happens next:  After you submit your application and payment, you will receive:
  1. An email from the OSBN requesting a copy of your training program certificate of completion or your official school transcripts if you are a nursing program graduate. 
  2. A second email from the OSBN with instructions on how to complete the fingerprinting process for your national criminal background check.  More information about Oregon’s digital fingerprint system: Frequently Asked Questions about fingerprinting.
  3. An email from Headmaster Testing Service with instructions on how to schedule your exam date.  Headmaster will send this email after the OSBN reviews your application and releases you to test.  Once you choose a date, Headmaster will send you a confirmation email.
Note for Applicants:
  • Headmaster Testing Service provides Oregon’s CMA testing.  All applicants should review the Candidate Handbook for Oregon before submitting their application.
  • Exam results are available on Headmaster’s website 3-5 business days after the exam date. 
CMA Exam Fees and Refund Policy
  • CMA Certification by Examination:  $73.
  • You may pay by credit card or check.  Fees submitted as part of the application process are not refundable, per ORS 678.410(2).  Be certain that you intend to complete the process before submitting your payment.  If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, or there is an error in your payment, please call our Customer Service Center at 971-673-0685 or e-mail oregon.bn.info@state.or.us.
