Oregon Workers' Compensation Costs

The Oregon workers' compensation pure premium rate in 2027 will increase by average 2.1 percent in 2027. Despite the increase, the pure premium has decreased 36.5 percent since 2018.

Pure premium

  • Average 2.1 percent increase from 2026
  • Portion of the premium employers pay insurers to cover anticipated claims cost for job-related injuries and deaths
  • Increase is due to passage of Senate Bill 1519, which increased benefits for workers injured on the job

Premium assessment

  • Will remain at 9.8 percent in 2027
  • Self-insured employers and public-sector self-insured employer groups pay 9.9 percent
  • Private-sector self-insured employer groups pay 10.3 percent
  • Covers the costs of administering workers’ compensation and worker safety programs

Workers’ Benefit Fund assessment

  • Will increase to 2.2 cents per hour worked in 2026
  • This assessment:
    • Funds return-to-work programs
    • Provides increased benefits over time for workers who are permanently and totally disabled
    • Gives benefits to families of workers who die from workplace injuries or diseases
  • New in 2027 is BOLI Expenses Fund component, which will be an additional 0.2 cents per hour worked
