Mental Health Regulatory Agency’s Boards have received reports of scammers contacting licensees by phone and claiming to be Board staff, even spoofing the Board’s actual phone number so that it appeared the call was legitimate. If you receive suspicious call, do not provide any sensitive information.
The Boards and their staff will not ask for payment or request personal information over the phone. The Boards are not set up to accept phone payments. Payment of fees, including renewal and delinquent fees (if any), are always made through the secure Board portals listed on the official Board websites.
The Boards do not notify licensees of investigations by phone. Instead, a secure letter is sent to the email address on file with the Board. Civil penalties are not due until a final order is issued by the Board, and again, these are paid through the secure Board portals.
Scammers will create a sense of urgency and may advise you against speaking with others. If you believe you have been targeted by a scammer, please contact your Board directly.
Please note that the Boards cannot investigate or track suspicious contacts. You may visit the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website to report your encounter. If you provided personal or credit card/bank information. you should contact local law enforcement and your financial institution.
