Members of the PSRB are appointed through a formal process led by the Governor of Oregon. Interested and qualified individuals apply through the Governor’s Boards and Commissions website. The Board’s Executive Director, in coordination with the current Chair, conducts a comprehensive vetting process to evaluate candidates’ qualifications and fit for the role. A list of recommended candidates is then submitted to the Governor for consideration. Final appointments are subject to confirmation by the Oregon Senate.
During the 2023–25 legislative session,
House Bill 2804 was passed and signed into law by the Governor, becoming effective on May 12, 2025. This legislation restructured the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB), consolidating its functions under a single panel.
