Health and Sustainable Food Guidelines

A variety of colorful fruits and vegetables arranged in a rainbow shape

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the General Services Administration, published the Health and Sustainable Food Guidelines for Federal Concessions and Vending Operations (pdf). These guidelines demonstrate the federal government’s commitment to increasing opportunities for Americans to eat healthfully. Having a prevention-oriented approach at the national level will fuel state and local efforts. The federal guidelines are an excellent model for other agencies, organizations, and businesses to consider adopting.
