Villebois is located on a 500-acre site in Wilsonville that includes the former Dammasch State Hospital property. In 1999, the Oregon Legislature passed a bill providing for the sale and redevelopment of this property as an urban village. Recognizing that the hospital had been home to thousands of people with mental illness over the years the Legislature also specified that some of the net sale proceeds and up to ten acres (net eight acres) at the site be used to create housing for people with a mental illness.
In accordance with the 1999 bill and the July 2004 purchase agreement, community housing was and will be developed at Villebois. The housing is and will be integrated throughout the new community. The Oregon Health Authority, the City of Wilsonville, various Villebois developers, and Clackamas County Behavioral Health are all working collaboratively to ensure the community housing integrates seamlessly into the new community.
Types of Community Housing
Community Housing includes various types of housing opportunities, where residents live “family-style” with assistance from on-site staff, and multi-unit housing, where a greater level of independence can be enjoyed in a supportive environment. All of the community housing at Villebois is and will be maintained consistent with homeowner association standards.
