DMV maintains a computerized record system of auto insurance coverage information that is accessible to DMV and law enforcement 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Automobile Liability Insurance Reporting

Vehicle insurers must notify DMV within 15 days of issuing a new policy or adding a vehicle to an existing policy, and within 30 days of policy cancellations.

Insurance information is returned to the insurance company if the VIN does not match a DMV vehicle record.

  • ALIR Trading Partners that currently send DMV insurance information in an EDI format

Automobile Liability Insurance Reporting (ALIR) Instruction Manual for Insurance Companies – Delimited Flat-File

  • New ALIR Trading Partners that want to begin sending automobile insurance liability data to Oregon DMV on or after September 1, 2019; or
  • Existing ALIR trading partners who are prepared to begin transitioning to Oregon DMV’s new ALIR interface, using a delimited, flat-file format.
