Create an apprenticeship program

Want to create a new apprenticeship program?

If you are an employer and want to become a training agent for an established apprenticeship program, please contact the program you want to work with. Find complete program information here.

To learn how employers and workforce development boards can work together to create apprenticeship programs to meet the employment needs of their communities, watch this Apprenticeship and Local Workforce Development Boards presentation video for more information.

Start a program

We are here to help guide you through the process of creating an apprenticeship program. If you are considering starting a program or already are working on one, please contact our office at 971-245-3844 or ATD.GENERAL@boli.oregon.gov to be connected with an Apprenticeship Representative who will be your one point of contact going forward.

Everything you need to know when starting an apprenticeship program (PDF)

  1. Identify basics and gather information to build your apprenticeship program - including the trade/occupation, your partners, core knowledge that apprentices will gain, curriculum and training plan, how you’ll provide training, and the wage scale. Fit those pieces into our toolkit to help you make sure you have everything you need.
  2. Meet with your Local Committee, which is an advisory body made up of company and industry representatives, to sign off on your plan, also known as a “standard.”
  3. The Oregon State Apprenticeship and Training Council will review your standard at their next meeting. You should plan to attend to answer any questions they may have. They will take a vote to approve your apprenticeship program.
  4. You’re ready to go!
