About Family Support and Connections services

Family Support and Connections services are designed to strengthen families and support effective parenting. The program provides services to increase what are known as parental protective factors. Parental protective factors include:

  • Nurturing and attachment
  • Parenting skills
  • Parental resilience
  • Parental social connections
  • Positive, concrete supports such as bus passes to attend parenting classes, diapers, cleaning supplies, etc.

  • Low-income families with at least one child under 18 who lives at home and are not receiving services through Child Welfare.

How do I request services?

If you or someone you are working with would like to be referred to Family Support and Connections Services:

Is there a waiting list?

In some places, there is more demand for Family Support and Connections than can be served right away. Please sign up anyway; there may be other programs we can refer you to for services while you wait to join Family Support and Connections.

Family advocates work with you

Families that join the program are connected with a Family Support and Connections advocate. Advocates are flexible and available to meet anywhere your family feels comfortable. Your family advocate will help identify the strengths and needs of your family, and work with you to find the solutions that work best for you and your children.

Your advocate may:

  • Make home visits and other face-to-face contacts
  • Complete a strengths-based family assessment
  • Create a family service plan with individualized services
  • Stay in touch with your Self-Sufficiency Program case manager and be a part of your case planning
