The Oregon Board of Optometry works to protect Oregonians from the dangers of unqualified and improper practice of optometry.
The board is comprised of five governor-appointed members: four are licensed optometrists and one is a public member. Members serve three-year terms and oversee the agency and its functions.
The board is assisted by two full-time staff who help board members enforce the agency’s laws and rules.
There are currently about 1,200 active and inactive licensed optometrists in Oregon.
Oregonians can submit online complaints to the board for review if they believe an optometrist has breached Oregon law or given an improper standard of care.
The board does not handle fee disputes.
Despite a small staff, the Board values timely communication with Oregonians, our stakeholders, licensees and fellow state employees. A copy of our approved customer service policy is here for your review. If you believe that Board staff isn't meeting the standards in this policy, please reach out to Shelley Hanson, Executive Director or the Board President.
