Vehicle Title, Registration and Permit Fees

Oregon does not have a separate charge for duplicate titles. The title fee chart below applies to duplicate and title transfers. Please make checks and money orders payable to Oregon DMV. 

Starting Dec. 31, 2025, there will be new fees

Titling Vehicle 

Calculate fees and prepare your title application online if you have a passenger vehicle. Note: This tool may not reflect the increased fees.

How To Apply

  • Make sure you have all required title documents, and
  • Apply by mail to DMV Services, 1905 Lana Ave NE, Salem, OR 97314, or
  • Make an appointment at a DMV office to complete your transaction.

  • Late title transfers (occurring between 31 – 60 days) incur a fee of $25.*
  • Late title transfers (occurring after 60 days) incur a fee of $50.*
    *A late title transfer fee is due if you apply for a title more than 30 days after the sale of an Oregon-titled vehicle.

NOT Titling Vehicle

You have an Oregon title in your name, and need to renew or replace plates:
  • Apply to renew and/or replace your plates online for most plates. There's no need to calculate your fees. See “Miscellaneous Fees” on this page.
You have an Oregon title in your name, but no plates on vehicle or cannot renew and/or replace online:

DMV uses the MPG rating assigned to the VIN, as provided by the vehicle manufacturer. You can find your vehicle’s combined MPG rating at fueleconomy.gov

BEFORE Dec. 31: Title fees for passenger vehicles and trucks (26,000 pounds GVWR or less):

  • If the vehicle has a combined rating of 0 – 19 MPG, the fee is $101.
  • If the vehicle has a combined rating of 20 - 39 MPG, the fee is $106.
  • If the vehicle has a combined rating of 40 MPG or higher, the fee is $116.
  • If the vehicle is all electric, the fee is $192.
STARTING Dec. 31 the fees will be: ​​
  • $240 if the vehicle has a combined rating of 0 – 19 MPG.
  • $245 if the vehicle has a combined rating of 20 - 39 MPG.
  • $255 if the vehicle has a combined rating of 40 MPG or higher.
  • $331 if the vehicle is all electric.
Other title fees include:

  • If the vehicle is a Light Trailer, Travel Trailer, Motorcycle, Moped, Motor Home, Bus, Camper, Park Model RV or ATV, the fee is $101. All-electric vehicles are subject to the electric vehicle title fee above, regardless of vehicle type.​
  • The heavy vehicle title fee is $90. 
    • ​Heavy vehicles are motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds and trailers with a loaded weight over 8,000 pounds. Excludes motor homes, special use trailers, and travel trailers.
  • The salvage title fee is $27.
  • Late title transfers (occurring between 31 – 60 days) incur a fee of $25.*
  • Late title transfers (occurring after 60 days) incur a fee of $50.*
*A late title transfer fee is due if you apply for a title more than 30 days after the sale of an Oregon-titled vehicle.

STARTING Dec. 31:
  • ​If the vehicle is a Light Trailer, Travel Trailer, Motorcycle, Moped, Motor Home, Bus, Camper, Park Model RV or ATV, the fee will be $240. All-electric vehicles will be subject to the new electric vehicle title fee above, regardless of vehicle type.​

Fees are changing starting Dec. 31, 2025. Registration fees are based on the vehicle expiration or the date registration is issued. If registration begins after the increase, regardless of when you pay for it, you will pay the new registration fees. If your expiration date is prior to the increase, you will pay the old fees, then pay the increased fees at your next renewal.​

Passenger Vehicles

DMV uses the MPG rating assigned to the VIN, as provided by the vehicle manufacturer. You can find your vehicle’s combined MPG rating at fueleconomy.gov.  

REGULAR PASSENGER REGISTRATION is valid for two years.

NEW PASSENGER VEHICLE with a Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin: Receives four-year registration. Double the Registration/Renewal AND any county fees.

Add together each fee type that applies to your situation to get your total fee.

Registration and renewal fees are due when the vehicle has no Oregon plates or the Oregon plates are expired.

For two-year registration that begins or expires BEFORE Dec. 31:

  • If the vehicle has a combined rating of 0 – 19 MPG, the fee is $126.
  • If the vehicle has a combined rating of 20 - 39 MPG, the fee is $136.
  • If the vehicle has a combined rating of 40 MPG or higher, the fee is $156.*
  • If the vehicle is all electric, the fee is $316.*
  • If the vehicle is a motorcycle or moped, the fee is $88.
**OReGO is a road usage charge program where drivers pay for the miles they drive, instead of the per-gallon fuels tax.​ If you enroll in OReGO the registration fee is $86 every two years, and you don’t pay the increased registration fee. Submit a copy of your enrollment email to DMV. If you leave the OReGO program, DMV will bill you for the full registration fee.

Starting July 1, 2027, when it is time to renew, drivers of used electric vehicles must pay a $170 two-year registration fee, and decide to EITHER pay a flat fee or ​pay by the mile. This will go into effect Jan. 1, 2028, for new electric vehicles and July 1, 2028, for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.​

For two-year registration that begins or expires AFTER Dec. 31 the fees will be: ​
  • $210 if the vehicle has a combined rating of 0 – 19 MPG.
  • $220 if the vehicle has a combined rating of 20 - 39 MPG.
  • $300 if the vehicle has a combined rating of 40 MPG or higher and NOT enrolled in OReGO.
  • $460 if the vehicle is all electric and NOT enrolled in OReGO. 
  • $172 if the vehicle is a motorcycle or moped.

​Other registration and renewal fees may be due if applicable to your situation:

  • If you need new license plates for your passenger vehicle at initial registration, the fee is $26.
  • If you are moving Oregon plates onto another vehicle, the fee is $30.
  • You will also owe any applicable registration and county fees if you do not own the vehicle the plates were removed from.
    • If you live in, and/or the vehicle stays in, Multnomah County, the county fee is $112. 
    • ​If you live in, and/or the vehicle stays in, Washington or Clackamas County, the county fee is $60.

Permit Fees

  • The fee for a light vehicle trip permit (valid for 21 days) is $35.
  • The fee for a heavy motor vehicle trip permit (valid for 10 days) is $43.
  • The fee for a heavy trailer trip permit (valid for 10 days) is $10.
  • The fee for a recreational vehicle trip permit (valid for 1- 10 days) is $35.
  • The fee for a registered vehicle trip permit (valid for 10 days) is $7.50.
  • The fee for a registration weight trip permit (valid for 10 days) is $5.
  • There is no fee for a disabled person parking permit.
  • The fee for a snowmobile trip permit (valid for 60 days) is $7.
    • ​The snowmobile trip permit is only available to non-Oregon residents.

Sno-Park Fees:

  • A daily permit is $4.
  • A 3-day permit is $9.
  • An annual permit is $25.

Replacement/Plate/VIN Fees

  • A vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection done in Oregon is $9.
  • For a two-plated vehicle, the plate fee is $26.
  • For a one-plated vehicle, the plate fee is $13.
  • The fee to replace a plate or plates, with or without stickers, is $12.
    • This fee is in addition to plate fees.
  • The fee to replace stickers only is $10.​
