Command Group

About Us

 
The Command Group consists of The Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard, the Joint Force Headquarters, including the Assistant Adjutants Generals for the Air Guard Component and the Army Guard Component, the Deputy Chief of State Affairs Component and the Oregon Civil Defense Force.  The purpose of the Command Group is to administer all components of the Oregon National Guard.

The Oregon Military Department (OMD) is a Ready, Professional Organization of Soldiers, Airmen and Civilians dedicated to the highest quality service to our Communities, State and Nation.  The OMD provides the State of Oregon and the United States with a ready force of Citizen Soldiers, Airmen, and Civilians, trained and equipped to respond to any contingency, natural or man-made.  Always Ready, Always There!

BRIGADIER GENERAL ALAN R. GRONEWOLD

 
 
The Adjutant General, Oregon

 
General Alan R. Gronewold is The Adjutant General, Oregon. He is responsible for providing the State of Oregon and the United States with a ready force of more than 8,100 Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen, equipped and trained to respond to any contingency, natural or man-made. He directs, manages, and supervises the administration, discipline, organization, training and mobilization of the Oregon National Guard, and the Office of Oregon Emergency Management. He is also assigned as the Governor’s Homeland Security Advisor. General Gronewold develops and coordinates all policies, plans and programs of the Oregon National Guard in concert with the Governor and legislature of the State.

General Alan Gronewold received his commission from the United States Military Academy in 1996.  He holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from USMA and an M.S. in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA. His military education includes Air Assault school, Airborne school, Initial Entry Rotary Wing training, UH-60 A/L qualification and maintenance test pilot course, CH-47D/F qualification and instructor pilot course, C-12 qualification, Aviation Officer Basic Course, Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Intermediate Level Education, and U.S. Army War College.
