Pain Management Continuing Education (CE)

Oregon law requires all licensed nurses and other health professionals to receive one hour of pain management continuing education upon initial licensure and every 36 months thereafter.  This one (1) hour must be the Oregon Pain Management Commission module.  For more information regarding pain management, please visit the Oregon Pain Management Commission website

  1. Which providers have to fulfill this requirement? 
    The continuing education is required for all physicians, physician assistants, acupuncturists, advanced practice nurses, podiatrists, chiropractors, naturopaths, psychologists, and other health professionals. 

  2. How many hours do I need? 
    One hour, which is the Oregon Pain Management Commission module.   

  3. I'm an Oregon nursing student: Will topics I've studied as part of my nursing program fill the requirement? 
    Yes. Oregon-based nursing programs are required to include learning activities related to pain management. When applying for initial licensure,  you do not need to complete additional training.

  4. Do I have to take pain management CE for renewal of my license?
    Yes.  You must retake the Oregon Pain Management Commission module every 36 months.
