Opportunities and Access Report

June 29, 2022

Alsea Bay

  • NEW:  The Port of Alsea's new boat ramp, boarding docks, marina, and accessible kayak launching dock are open. 

Applegate Reservoir

  • NEW:  Hart-Tish, Copper, and French Gulch boating access are open. There is a lot of debris on the water, please keep a lookout.

Beulah Reservoir

  • UPDATE: Located on the North Fork of the Malheur River approximately 15 miles north of Juntura on a gravel road. As of June 26, the boat ramp is approximately 3 feet out of the water. Paddlers can carry down their boats to launch. 

Brownlee Reservoir

  • Hewitt and Holcomb Parks are open and docks are floating. ODOT is chip sealing along Highway 86 through June, there may be up to 30-minute delays.
  • Moonshine Mine boat ramp is open.

Chetco River

  • UPDATE: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Yaquina is dredging the federal navigation channel. The work will be completed the week of June 27-July 1. 

Columbia River

  • NEW: The river is still high and boat ramps are open and docks are floating. There is a lot of debris on the water, keep a lookout. 
  • UPDATE: Umatilla Marina boat ramp and docks are reopened after Umatilla Landing Days.
     
  • Hammond Marina was recently dredged. The City of Warrenton is putting everything back together and should have the work completed in time for the Buoy 10 fishery.
     
  • Donaldson Marina pumpout is open and operational.

  • McCuddy's Marine Drive pumpout and dump station are scheduled to be replaced this year.
     
  • Port of Cascade Locks pumpout and dump station are out of service. The next available equipment downstream is at M. James Gleason and upstream is at Port of Hood River.
 Cooper Creek

  • NEW:  Cooper Creek East and West boat ramps are open and docks are floating. The reservoir is full.
Coos Bay

  • UPDATE: Empire Boat Ramp is reopened and docks are installed.
Coquille River
  •  Arago boat ramp sediment was removed and docks are anticipated to be installed between June 21 and July 1.

  • Coquille boat ramp has not been cleaned and sediment is present. Coos County is unsure if they will remove the sediment this year. 

  • Sturdivant Park has approximately 3 feet of water at the bottom of the boat ramp at ordinary low water. Please avoid power loading your boat on and from your trailer. Power loading and unloading can damage the lower portion of the boat ramp causing expensive repairs and permitting.

Cougar Reservoir

  • NEW: The water level is approximately 5 feet below Slide Creek and Echo Park boat ramps. Paddlers can carry down their boats.
Crane Prairie Reservoir

  • Boarding docks are installed at Rock Creek Day Use and Crane Prairie Day Use.
Crescent Lake

  • Crescent Lake campground and day-use main boat launch are unusable due to low water. The low water boat launch to the west of the main launch is open. Crescent Lake Resort is open for launching small boats, be cautious as some vehicles have gotten stuck in the sediment.

  • Spring campground and day-use area open. U.S. Forest Service recommends only launching small boats because of low water levels. The dock will not be installed this year.

Davis Lake

  • The boat launch at Lava Flow campground is under a wildlife closure until September 1. Launching of small boats is possible at the North Lava Flow campground adjacent to the lava field and at the West Davis recreation site.

Deschutes River

  • NEW: Wyeth boat ramp is closed until July 1, to complete roadway reconditioning. 

Devils Lake

  • NEW: Regatta Park and Holmes Road Park boat ramps are open and docks are floating. Sand Point Park is open and has a nice beach to launch kayaks and canoes. 

East Lake

  • Cinder Hill and Hot Spring boat ramps are usable and have a low amount of water at the toe of the boat ramp. Please avoid power loading your boat on and from your trailer. Power loading and unloading can damage the lower portion of the boat ramp causing expensive repairs and permitting. The docks will not be installed this year.
  • The East Lake boat ramp is dry and docks will not be installed this year. 

Emigrant Lake

  • NEW: Emigrant Lake North boat ramp and boarding docks are open. The other boat ramps are dry. Please avoid power loading your boat on and from your trailer.  Power loading and unloading can damage the lower portion of the boat ramp causing expensive repairs and permitting.
Faraday Lake

  • NEW:  The lake, park, and surrounding areas are closed for construction. Parking near the bridge and access to all areas across the bridge (Southeast of the Clackamas River) is closed. The area is anticipated to be reopened in 2023 Faraday Lake (portlandgeneral.com)

Foster Reservoir

  • UPDATE: There is a lot of debris on the water, keep a lookout. Gedney Creek, Sunnyside and Calkins boat ramps are open and docks are floating. There is approximately three feet of water over the bottom of the boat ramp at Calkins Park. Please avoid power loading your boat on and from your trailer. Power loading and unloading can damage the lower portion of the boat ramp causing expensive repairs and permitting.

Gilbert River 

  • NEW: The Gilbert River boat ramp access road has about a foot of water over the road and there is a lot of debris around the boat ramp and docks. 
Gold Lake 

  • UPDATE: As of June 23, Gold Lake campground and boating access are open.   Waldo Lake Road is impassable near milepost 10 and the road to Shadow Bay is closed due to snow. U.S. Forest Service is monitoring the status and will open the gate as soon as the road becomes passable and safe for travel. For updates call the Gold Lake information line at 541-782-5235.

Green Peter Reservoir

Hells Canyon Reservoir

  • Copperfield boat launch is open and docks are floating.

Henry Hagg Lake 

  • NEW: Scoggins Valley Park will be closed to public recreation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, for an Oregon Department of Forestry wildfire training. During this time the lake will be cleared of boaters so that pilots can practice scooping water into firefighting planes. The lake will be open for recreation before and after this training exercise. The rest of the park will be open for public use all day.

Hills Creek

  • All boat ramps are open. Bingham boat ramp has approximately 10 feet of water at the bottom of the boat ramp. Please avoid power loading your boat on and from your trailer. Power loading and unloading can damage the lower portion of the boat ramp causing expensive repairs and permitting.
Howard Prairie Lake

  • NEW: The water level is nearly double what it was a year ago however the reservoir is only about 13% full. The boat ramps at Grizzly Creek, Willow Point, Klum Landing, and Howard Prairie Resort are dry but paddlers can carry their boats to the water. Small boats can use the unimproved access near the dam.

Hyatt Lake

  • UPDATE: The reservoir is at less than 6% full, unfortunately, both boat ramps are out of the water and closed to trailered boats. The campground is open but access to the water is difficult. Paddlers can carry their boats to the water.

Kingsley Reservoir

Lake Billy Chinook

  • NEW: The reservoir has three floating restrooms. One near Chinook Island, one near Kettle Falls and one in the Deschutes Arm. To keep the toilets functioning and unplugged, please flush after every use. 
  • The Cove Palisades Resort and Marina wave attenuator is installed. Additional anchors will be installed to secure the attenuator. Work is anticipated to be completed by September 2022. The boating facilities are open during construction.

  • Sundance waterski club is getting a new anchoring system for their dock located on the Crooked River arm. The dock will be unusable until mid-summer.

Lake Harriet

  • NEW: The lake is ONLY accessible by Highway 26 and Skyline because Highway 224 is closed at Ripplebrook.
Lake Owyhee Reservoir 

  • Leslie Gulch boat ramp is dry. Gordon Gulch and Indian Creek are open. The floating restroom will not be installed this year.
Lookout Point Reservoir 

  • All boat ramps are open. Hampton Landing and Meridian boat ramps have approximately 9 feet of water at the bottom of the boat ramp. The water level is dropping. Please avoid power loading your boat on and from your trailer. Power loading and unloading can damage the lower portion of the boat ramp causing expensive repairs and permitting.

Lost Creek Reservoir

  • The Takelma boat ramp boarding docks were damaged and will not be reinstalled this year.

Luckiamute River 

  • Luckiamute Landing is open and usable. There is woody debris in the water and portage may be necessary. 

McKenzie River 

  • Taylor Landing is open.

  • Silver Creek Boat Landing is open for boating. The ramp, parking, and restroom are open. The river viewing platform was destroyed by the Holiday Farm fire and is closed. 

  • Rennie Boat Landing is open. 

  • The boat ramp, parking, and access road to Ben and Kay Dorris State Park are open. All other park facilities are closed due to the Holiday Farm fire.

Miller Lake

  • Digit Point Campground boat ramp is open and docks are floating. 
Neawanna Creek

  • NEW: Broadway Park boat ramp is open and the kayak launching dock is open.

Necanicum River 

  • NEW: Cartwright boat ramp is open and Quatat Marine Park boat ramp is open and docks are floating.
Nestucca River

  • NEW: Below First Bridge boating access, the river is low but still passable by drift boats.
North Santiam River

  • UPDATE: Greens Bridge gate is closed. Boaters wishing to launch or retrieve boats must apply for a key through ODFW 541-757-4186. Visit the hazards and obstructions dashboard for more details. 
North Umpqua River 

  • Amacher Park boat ramp and parking is anticipated to be closed in late summer-early fall to replace the upper half of the boat ramp and reconfigure and pave the parking area. Access to the camping area will be open.
Odell Lake 

  • Sunset Cove boat launch is open. 

  • Princess Creek boat launch is open. 

  • Trapper Creek boat launch is not yet open for the season.

  • Odell Lake Resort and Shelter Cove Resort boat launches are open.

Oxbow Reservoir

  • The Oxbow boat ramp is open and docks are floating.
Paulina Lake

  • Little Crater and Paulina Lake Campground boat ramp is open and docks are floating.

Pilcher Creek Reservoir

  • The reservoir is full; the boat ramp is open and the docks are floating.

Plat I Reservoir

  • NEW:  The reservoir is full. The boat ramp is open and the docks are floating.

Prineville Reservoir

  • All boat ramps on Prineville Reservoir are out of the water. Hand launching kayaks, canoes and standup paddleboards can be done at Prineville Reservoir State Park. The floating restrooms will not be installed this year.
Rogue River 

Scappoose Bay

  • Scappoose Bay Marina will be closing the boat ramp for one day on June 29 for pavement maintenance. This is a weather-dependent project and may be rescheduled if it rains. 
Snake River 

  • Nyssa City Park boat ramp is open and docks are floating.
Spring Creek

  • Collier Memorial Park -The Spring Creek Day Use and Kayak Launch will be closed for construction starting June 13 – July 20th. Improvements include paved parking, designated loading and unloading zone, reconfigured asphalt pathways to restrooms and kayak launch, gate, launch dock, and informational kiosk.  

Suttle Lake

  • Boarding docks are installed at Link Creek, South Shore, and Suttle Lake.

Tillamook Bay

  • Memaloose County Park is severely shoaled in making launching and retrieving difficult.  Monitor tides closely.

Thief Valley Reservoir

  • The reservoir is full; the boat ramp is open, and the docks are floating.

Timothy Lake

  • NEW:  North Arm Campground, Oak Fork Campground, Gone Creek Campground, Hoodview Campground and Pine Point Campground boating access are open and ONLY accessible by Highway 26 and Skyline because Highway 224 is closed at Ripplebrook. The Oak Fork Campground boat ramp docks are usable but have some damage on the dock. 
Trask River 

  • NEW: Below Loren's Drift boating access, the river is low but still passable by drift boats.
Tualatin River

  • NEW: Rivergrove boat ramp is open from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm through the end of October. The boat ramp is short, typically less than a foot of water at the toe during normal water levels. Launching of small boats, kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards is recommended.

  • UPDATE: Cook Park boat ramp reopened after Tigard Festival of Balloons.

  • Rood Bridge boat launch and kayak dock are open.

Turner Lake

  • Turner Lake Park boat ramp is open and docks are floating. There is a seasonal fee from May 28 to September 5. A large July 3 and 4 Festival is scheduled. No onsite parking will be available on those days. 

Umpqua River

  • Update: Alfred S. Tyson boat launch in Elkton is open. The water level is dropping, and the boat ramp has a steep slope ranging from 18 to 27 percent, which can make launching difficult. 
     
  • Rainbow Plaza overflow parking across from the boating facility behind the floodwall will be open for camping beginning July 1 through October 31.  

Waldo Lake

  • UPDATE: As of June 23, Waldo Lake Road is impassable about milepost 10 and the road to Shadow Bay is closed due to snow. Willamette River
Lower (Columbia River to Willamette Falls) 

  • NEW:  Roehr Dock is underwater and closed.

  • NEW:  Foothills Dock and Tryon Cove Dock are open. The water is high and there is a lot of debris in the water, please keep a lookout.

  • UPDATE:  All of the docks are installed at Milwaukie Bay Park.

  • Cathedral Park - ODOT will be doing repair work on the St. Johns bridge columns this year. Portland Parks and Recreation does not anticipate any impact on the boat ramp and docks. There may be minor if any impact to the boater parking area. The two N. Philadelphia Avenue frontage roads connecting North Syracuse and North Willamette Avenues will close. The southern frontage road will remain open to local access. Additional information can be found on the ODOT project page.

Middle (Willamette Falls to Salem)

  • NEW: Molalla River State Park boat ramp is open and there are life jackets on the kiosk. 

  • UPDATE:  All of the docks at Hebb Park are installed.

  • Regulatory changes to the Towed Watersports Education Program for Newberg Pool are in effect. 

Upper (Salem to Eugene)

  • UPDATE: Wallace Marine Park boat ramp is reopened and all docks have been repaired and reinstalled. 
     
  • Riverview Park in Independence will be closed to vehicles July 2-4 for the annual Independence Days festival. The Independence Sports Park boat ramp located approximately one-mile downstream will be open.
     
  • Buena Vista County Park is closed through September 30, 2022, for construction of the boat ramp, boarding docks, lower parking area, vault toilet, and access road. During this time there is no boating access at the Park. The contractor has started demolition of the old ramp and lower parking area.
     
  • Marshall Island and Christensen are open.
     
  • The City of Harrisburg is making street improvements for Monroe St. between 1st and 2nd Streets. Use an alternative route to reach the boat ramp and restrooms until July 5.

Wilson River

  • NEW: Below Mill Bridge boating access, the river is low but still passable by drift boats.

Wolf Creek Reservoir

  • The reservoir is full; the boat ramp is open and the docks are floating.
