Oregon's Car Care Program

The About the Car Care Program

Oregon's Car Care Program is a tool to assist motorists stopped by a law enforcement officer for minor motor vehicle equipment violations. Motorists stopped for qualifying minor vehicle equipment violations may receive a car care voucher that can be used at participating auto parts stores to receive a discount on parts to fix the cause of the violation.

Qualifying violations include but are not limited to, no or nonstandard lighting equipment, no windshield wipers, no proper fenders or mudguards, and no or inadequate rearview mirrors.

Participating auto parts stores and retailers include:

* Some restrictions may apply, see specific retailers for more details.

We understand some individuals defer automobile maintenance to pay for other necessities, such as groceries and rent. The Oregon Car Care Program allows law enforcement officers to assist individuals in improving the safety of their vehicles and our highways.

Approximately 77 percent of minor vehicle equipment violations issued by OSP were due to “Operating without Required Lighting” (ORS 816.330). Required lighting includes all external lighting, such as blinkers, headlights, and tail lights, which directly affects safety on our highways.
