Executive Director Recruitment Underway
Following Sandy Leybold’s announcement of her upcoming retirement, the Board is actively seeking qualified candidates for the Board’s Executive Director position. This is an executive management position, which does not require clinical background in SLP or Audiology. The full position description as approved by the Board is available here. The best candidates would be individuals with experience in health care administration, non-profit management, or public administration, and familiarity with administrative law is a real plus. Leybold notes that the position offers the advantages of working relatively independently, and with a supportive, collaborative Board. These features might be particularly attractive to middle managers elsewhere in state government looking to move up. Non-profit managers would appreciate the relatively stable funding and solid benefits associated with state employment. There are also statewide support services that can make this position easier than running a small non-profit. Candidates with a legal background would be able to easily focus on the compliance and investigative aspects of the job, while honing their management skills. As an agency head, there are also opportunities to be involved in statewide initiatives to grow professionally.
The job is currently posted on the Oregon.gov website. Any interested candidates should click here to apply. Because screening interviews are taking place as the applications come in, candidates should apply as soon as possible. The Board expects to identify finalists in January and bring the new Executive Director on board ASAP. Leybold is making herself available for training/consultation during the transition period.
If anyone has questions about the position prior to applying, they should feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Sandy at 971-673-0087.
