Classroom Instruction

OSPS offers the following core beginning classes for new payroll staff members. If you would like additional information about a class, see Previous Training Presentations below.

Payroll Essentials (Classroom, 2.5 days)Next class series: August 18-20, 2014.  Register in iLearn by clicking below:

The Payroll Essentials class was designed with new payroll professionals in mind. On the first day, participants will learn about OSPA in a broad context, specifically what other systems interact with it as well as all the systems within OSPA that are a part of the payroll calculation.  The second day will focus on over 20 different OSPA screens that are a common part of a payroll professional's daily duties.  The last day will focus on taking all that participants have learned - the broad overview of all the systems related to calculating payroll and the specific OSPA screens, and then translate that information into practicing the important and integral processes related to payroll, like: finalizing new employee pay and benefits, processing transferring employees (both in and out) and processing employee separations.

Prerequisite: Day 1 is required for people taking days 2 and 3.

However, Financial Business Services (FBS) does charge a $50.00 fee when a student registers for an OSPS class conducted in a computer lab and does not cancel 48 hours prior to the class or send a substitute. This fee is included in the Statewide Price List of Goods and Services.
