U.S. 101B: Lewis & Clark River Bridge
Overview

The Lewis and Clark River Bridge was constructed in 1924 and is the only remaining single leaf bascule drawspan in Oregon. The 85 year old bridge’s wooden support structure is build out of untreated cedar. The timber is located in a severe marine environment and subject to tidal changes of up to 12 feet daily. As a result, many of the timber members are showing substantial deterioration and are in urgent need of repair.

This project will repair the most critically deteriorated timber members of the structure.

Piles, sills, and spans description

There are approximately 25 piles, 6 sills, and 9 spans with cross bracing that have been identified for repair or replacement.

Public Involvement
Construction is scheduled for summer 2011. Prior to construction, ODOT will hold an open house to discuss construction impacts to the nearby communities.
